The angel of death claimed Richard Hodson (sic) Sunday evening at about 9:30 o'clock after a short illness. He had been ailing all summer and was taken to Scales, Sierra county, for a change but he did not like it there and returned. He had a light stroke of apoplexy last spring and a second one last week. Mr. Hodgson had been at church at the Holiness Chapel in the morning and was feeling as well as usual until he was stricken down. Mr. Hodgson would have been 78 years old in three weeks had he lived. He was married in England before coming to this country and made the journey to California as his wedding trip thirty-nine years ago. He has resided here ever since and brought up a large family. Mrs. Hodgson passed away four years ago last July. The children are Richard and John Hodgson of Eureka, Joseph Hodgson of Bonnells, Humboldt county; Mrs. May V. Darden of Berkeley, Mrs. V.S. Bean, David Hodgson, the well known tailor, and Miss Ada Hodgson and Mrs. Annie Morris, all of this city. The funeral arrangements will depend upon the arrival of the children.
